Paths Toward Simplicity

Paths Toward Simplicity

  • The very first step you might want to try is to take a good look around your home. Remember, the more you have the more you have to take responsibility for thus occupying both time and energy.
  • If you have a laundry room, look on shelves and clean out unnecessary items you simply haven’t used for a long time. Keep your laundry area for laundry needs only; remember, it is important to wipe down your washer and dryer monthly to prevent it from any rust or corrosion. Run your washer at least once a month with white vinegar to keep the inside fresh as well as operating smoothly.

  • Maintain your kitchen free of unnecessary gadgets and small appliances-especially on counter tops and refrigerators. It will be easier for you to maintain a clean kitchen as well as open up space thus allowing your positive energy to flow; when areas are cleared of clutter – in any room – you feel as though you can breathe easier and are more relaxed. You’ll find clean-up in your kitchen a lot quicker and simpler-you might even find your cooking becomes more creative and enjoyable without having to be concerned with all that “STUFF” hanging around. Clear out your drawers and use them wisely.

  • Several friends pointed out to me that all of the little throw rugs lying around on my carpet were really annoying to walk on. One friend even mentioned he became agitated when walking in because there was no flow below you; you not only had to worry about tripping on these little throw rugs, but-there was just to much to look at-well, I explained I was covering up stains; after a few days I decided to get rid of them and found that my evenly flowing carpet alone offered more openness and flow-less floor clutter as well as easier cleaning!

  • Walls can be another trap. Clearing your walls of pictures and paintings will create more open space as well as brighten and lighten your room. You won’t have to wipe down as much either.

  • Wall units take up unnecessary space that could be made useful.

  • Unless you’re a plant lover and posses a very green thumb, keep plants outdoors where nature intended them to be thus clearing space and relieve yourself of watering, trimming, and re-potting.
These are just but a few items around your home you can work on clearing out. Basically, just keep in mind each room in your home has its purpose. Use closet and drawer space wisely-clear out what you need on the outside and store it. If you haven’t used it in a while-you probably need to be rid of it.

  • Don’t accumulate children’s toys and clothing. Clean out at least twice a year. Allow only special toys and gifts around holiday times. Keep toy exchange to a minimum; your children will learn to appreciate what they have. When cleaning out your children’s room, let them help and teach them to give away to the less fortunate.

  • Only keep basic clothing, shoes, accessories as well as other ‘stuff’. Keep all personal items to a minimum. It will require less preparation and cleaning.

  • Keep the trunk of your car clear of unnecessary items-only what is needed for the car itself. Reducing the weight in your car allows for better gas mileage and causes less pollution.

  • Another helpful way to organize and create a clear flow as well as positive energy it to keep a small notebook or date book of things to do as well as a list of needed items.

  • I do this in the mornings over coffee while watching the sun rise-It helps to organize my head and insure my self confidence-I feel more relaxed throughout the day. Don’t write things you know you’re not going to be able to accomplish-just looking at so much writing in itself will clog you up and cause frustration and anxiety;- remember, you’re in control of your priorities. How you spend your free time and with whom is totally up to you. By obtaining a clearer perspective at the beginning of your day, you’ll be better prepared to handle some of life’s surprises in a more constructive manner.

  • It serves no purpose clearing out your home when ‘stuff’ still lingers around your wor place.. If you work out of your home, it will be easier to maintain a clearer work area. Just follow the same steps if your job takes you away from home. You’ll have a clearer mind and possibly less energy wasted with enjoyment to boot. You’ll notice a better mood upon returning home.

  • Clearing all aspects in your life makes complete sense and ‘clears’ the way for ‘stuff’ that really counts.

  • We are not born with insecurities- Part of the problem with the commercialized society we live in today is advertisers do an exquisite job of marketing products and services-they make us FEEL not THINK; someone can tell us something over and over again and eventually we are going to believe it. No wonder stations are continuously bombarded with commercials-hear it enough and you’ll feel you need it-you have to have it-you’re a loser without it. These people have every right to promote their products and services, but-we have the CHOICE to purchase or not. In order to be strong independent thinking individuals we must never lose sight of what makes us comfortable in every aspect of our lives and not permit others to challenge those choices. Learning to evaluate the difference between WANTING and NEEDING is the primary basis for personal securities and freedoms as individuals.
